Hello. This is not our regularly scheduled program. In fact, this is something I wrote on about four hours of sleep after reading thousands of hate comments about Renee Nicole Good, the queer poet killed by ICE in Minneapolis on December 7th.
I am a writer, and so I write to process. I don’t expect you to enjoy this because I didn’t enjoy writing it.
I hate this.
I hate Nightmare World.
Regardless, here we are.
⤝❖⤞
Welcome to Nightmare World, brought to you by Corporate-State Attention Management.
Nightmare World is a massive multiplayer server with over 348 million users. Of those, approximately 253 million users are active, with 1% of users considered influential.
Though Nightmare World was initiated in 1620, the project’s current form coalesced in 1958, when reseachers transmitted private communications across long distances. Beta testing commenced in 1969.
Nightmare World was incorporated into Corporate-State Attention Management in 1981.
After decades of limited release, Nightmare World became an open server in 1993.
Update 45.5 was launched in early 2025.
⤝❖⤞
Entering and exiting Nightmare World.
Corporate-State Attention Management acknowledges that user consent is a recognized concept. However, user consent is not necessary to enter or exit Nightmare World. User consent is subject to moderator action at all times.
User consent is considered a historical artifact in recent terms of service updates. Users are expected to adjust expectations.
Spontaneous user entrance.
Spontaneous user entrance into Nightmare World is an uncontrolled event. On certain subservers, attempts to limit spontaneous entrance into Nightmare World may be met with moderator action.
User-initiated entrance.
User-initiated entrance into Nightmare World from another server is strictly controlled. Attempted entrance without express written permission of Corporate-State Attention Management may be met with moderator action and forced user exit.
Forced user exit.
While users can force exit at any time, most wait until error codes accumulate.
Non-moderator users are prohibited from forcing user exit. Moderators may force user exit at any time without probable cause should they have the appropriate permissions from Corporate-State Attention Management.
User-initiated exit.
Users can initiate exit from Nightmare World if they have the appropriate permissions from Corporate-State Attention Management. However, users with adverse action by Corporate-State Attention Management, however slight, may have permissions revoked. They may also be placed in temporary or permanent bans.
Server transfer.
Users may transfer to one of over 195 servers with permission from that server’s moderation team. However, Corporate-State Attention Management reserves the right to continue deducting user subscriptions from any user-controlled funding account until the user submits a deactivation request to Corporate-State Attention Management servers.
⤝❖⤞
User profiles and attributes.
By accessing Nightmare World, users acknowledge that their full user profiles must be accessible to Corporate-State Attention Management. Attempting to conceal user profile information may result in moderator action and forced exit.
Most user attributes are generated based on associated account information or spontaneous events. Certain Random Live Events may also determine user profile attributes. Attributes may influence Nightmare World behavior at the discretion of Corporate-State Attention Management.
Users with negative attributes may be subject to randomized moderator action, revocation of services, or forced user exit.
Corporate-State Attention Management awards additional privileges based on user attributes, including increased access to advisory user classes, influential user classes, and moderator user classes.
Programs attempting to increase negative-attribute user participation in these special classes were removed with terms of service updates in 2025.
⤝❖⤞
User statuses.
Historical terms of service acknowledged that all users may have been created equal after Randomized Live Events forced advisory users to adjust terms of service.
Those points in the terms of service, while still visible in the January 2025 update, are considered inactive.
⤝❖⤞
Nightmare World terms of service.
Nightmare World terms of service were updated in January 2025 following Update 45.5. Old terms are subject to removal, revocation, or adjustment at any time, for any reason, as requested by Corporate-State Attention Management. Adjudication or review processes are also subject to removal, revocation, or adjustment at any time.
The new terms of service are as follows.
Users must agree to accept all actions by moderators, particularly those under direct supervision of Corporate-State Attention Management.
Refusal to accept action by moderators may result in forced user exit. There is no appeals process.
User discussions and activities are monitored by third-party affiliates of Corporate-State Attention Management.
Third-party affiliates may use any discussion or activity to generate new discussions without user knowledge or approval. Opting out of discussion and activity generation is prohibited.
Users are prohibited from questioning administrative actions by Corporate-State Attention Management except in limited use cases, such as if user questions may generate Randomized Live Events.
Any user contracts are subject to revocation or modification by Corporate-State Attention Management without advance notice.
Prior user contracts are subject to revocation or modification by Corporate-State Attention Management without advance notice.
Adjudication or review processes previously generated by advisory users are subjected to revocation or modification by Corporate-State Attention Management without advance notice.
Advisory users, previously afforded limited moderator protections, must now appeal to Corporate-State Attention Management for continued access, which may be denied based on their previous user discussions or affiliations.
Users in other servers may be subject to Corporate-State Attention Management moderation or forced user participation. Refusal to participate or accept Nightmare World terms of service may result in forced user exit.
Users may deactivate their access to Nightmare World, but they may be prohibited from returning. They may also still be subject to Nightmare World terms of service and subscriptions regardless of new server status.
⤝❖⤞
Nightmare World services.
Nightmare World reserves the right to revoke, deny, adjust, terminate, or modify any service at any time, for any reason, and for any user.
Users are expected to submit service requests for most services on an as-needed basis. Subscription to Nightmare World is not a guarantee for access to any service.
Each service has its own request process, which users are expected to identify and locate on their own. If they require help accessing a service, they must submit a Request for Assistance to Access Service with the appropriate service provider, which may take several days or several decades.
Corporate-State Attention Management users and influential users have access to all services, at any time, and have the right to revoke services for other users at any time.
⤝❖⤞
Moderator powers.
Moderators have the following powers:
- Review of user profiles
- Banning of user profiles
- Freezing of user funding
- Requisition of user funding
- Denial of services
- Adjudication of user profiles
- Temporary or permanent user bans
- Alteration of user attributes (adding disability class)
- Forced user exit
Additional moderator powers may be added at the discretion of Corporate-State Attention Management at any time, with or without general user notice or consent.
Users, particularly negative-attribute users, are not entitled to protest moderator actions. They must be aware that moderator protests may result in forced user exit even if these actions were allowed by historical terms of service.
⤝❖⤞
Discussion boards.
In the modern iteration of Nightmare World, most user participation occurs on discussion boards. Corporate-State Attention Management has influenced server behavior to limit in-terrain user participation, particularly for users with negative user attributes.
Discussion boards are provided by third-party affiliates of Corporate-State Attention Management and are monitored by influential users.
Management reserves the right to modify or revoke access to discussion boards for all user classes.
Influential users are entitled to engage in and lead user discussions, without or without disclosure of personal user attributes. Corporate-State Attention Management offers privileges to certain influential users that broaden their reach.
Moderators are discouraged from intervening in user discussions, particularly if those discussions may result in Randomized Live Events.
Users may have access revoked by third-party affiliates for prohibited speech criticizing Corporate-State Attention Management.
Users are encouraged to engage on highly personal and volatile discussions with fellow users in hopes of generating Randomized Live Events.
⤝❖⤞
Randomized Live Events.
Randomized Live Events are unique multiplayer experiences, guaranteed to generate high activity levels. Randomized Live Events are multimedia experiences, and users are encouraged to watch all potential multimedia. Failure to watch all multimedia may result in adverse user discussions.
Events may be server-sponsored or user-sponsored. Server-sponsored events may not be advertised as such or may be advertised as user-sponsored.
All users, save influential users, must offer funding for server-sponsored events. Server-sponsored event scheduling is not subject to user approval or notice.
Users are encouraged to choose their positions in Randomized Live Events and engage in volatile discussions that may generate further Randomized Live Events. Users may join user position groups and are encouraged to fully align with all stated policies of the group. Discussions between user position groups may also generate Randomized Live Events.
Recent popular Randomized Live Events have included:
- Forced user exit from chokehold by moderator (server-sponsored)
- Mass user infection event containment protests (server-sponsored)
- Mass user invasion of Corporate-State Attention Management headquarters (server-sponsored)
- RECURRING EVENT: Bombing of negative-attribute users (server-sponsored) (external server event)
- RECURRING EVENT: User-generated famine (server-sponsored) (external server event)
- Corporate-State Attention Management abuse of underage users (server-sponsored)
- Forced exit of influential user by bullet to face (user-sponsored)
- Forced exit of influential user by bullet to neck (user-sponsored)
- Injury of Corporate-State Attention Management by bullet to ear (server-sponsored) (unconfirmed injury)
- Corporate-State Attention Management denial of abuse of underage users (server-sponsored)
- RECURRING EVENT: Mass arrest of users (server-sponsored)
- RECURRING EVENT: Mass abuse of users by moderators (server-sponsored)
- Forcible aquisition and retention of external server advisory user (server-sponsored) (external server event)
- Forced exit of negative-attribute user by three bullets to face (server-sponsored)
Users are not entitled to protest Randomized Live Events without moderator approval. Even then, user protest of Randomized Live Events may result in forced exit or user attribute status change (disabled attribute addition).
Users sometimes worry that Randomized Live Events may result in Nightmare World instability or termination. Do not be concerned. Randomized Live Events end quickly and do not affect Corporate-State Attention Management.
As of now, even widespread Randomized Live Events have never caused Nightmare World termination. Corporate-State Attention Management remains in operation and does not intend to allow Nightmare World termination for any reason, including historical terms of service.
Intentional events by Corporate-State Attention Management to terminate Nightmare World through terrain and air adjustments have not resulted in termination.
In fact, these terrain and air adjustments only improve Nightmare World discussion rates and generate more Randomized Live Events.
Some users deny this.
Most dread it.
None have a choice.
⤝❖⤞
Optional special event: forced user exit preview.
Sometimes, Randomized Live Events generate special events for select users with negative user attributes. These are personalized for the user, though unintentional.
Multimedia and user discussions can result in a forced user exit preview. Users can view similar negative-attribute users experiencing a forced exit, often through moderator action.
These multimedia examples will be forcibly witnessed to the point of cognitive overwhelm. There may be many angles and many user discussions of the same Randomized Live Events.
Only self-directed user removal from discussions will end the multimedia examples. This may be challenging.
User discussion is a fruitful way to understand how a specific user may be treated if they were to experience a forced user exit. These specific users can see how users from other user social groups would perceive their forced user exit, often in exciting and enthusiastic terms.
A specific user may get to see comments targeting their user attributes. These can include interesting user discussions such as:
“FAFO”
“She was a paid instigator and a mentally ill sexual deviant … no loss”
“Ohhh she was a lesbian? Nothing was lost”
“So she’s also a lesbian. Her wife? See how bad life choices get worse and worse. No mom does this – she had MaJOR mental health issues too. It keeps getting worse. She needed help. Not to join an anarchy group.”
“AND she’s a dyke lol”
“Her wife … that just shows she had mental issues.”
“First problem lesbianism, secondly liberals, third both retarded”
“Another mentally ill lesbian demorat eliminated. Good, no pun written.”
Specific users are systemically discouraged from attempting to engage in user discussions about these, as it may result in moderator action or a new Randomized Live Event.
Users are discouraged by other specific users from letting these discussions discourage their participation.
⤝❖⤞
User-generated postscript.
Users are discouraged by other users from initiating a forced exit.
Users are encouraged by other users to keep resisting.
It’s possible to adjust the Nightmare World terms of service by mass mobilization, though the method or timeline has not yet been determined.
But the server is mutable. It has happened before.
We can take back the server. I know we can.

Rest in peace, Renee Nicole Good.
