⤝❖⤞The Eirenic Verses ⤝❖⤞

Well hello! I hope you have had a marvelous Pride Month and are ready for all that July has to offer! It has been extremely sticky here in Northeast Ohio, so I'm really hoping that the weather settles down soon.

Like most people, I don't function the best when it's extremely hot - and, being a poet, I automatically start thinking in the most melodramatic way imaginable. This poem by Anna Akhmatova perfectly reflects that intensity, only mellowed by the coming of darkness.

Everything

Anna Akhmatova
Everything’s looted, betrayed and traded,
black death’s wing’s overhead.
Everything’s eaten by hunger, unsated,
so why does a light shine ahead?

By day, a mysterious wood, near the town,
breathes out cherry, a cherry perfume.
By night, on July’s sky, deep, and transparent,
new constellations are thrown.

And something miraculous will come
close to the darkness and ruin,
something no-one, no-one, has known,
though we’ve longed for it since we were children.

Writing Tip of the Week

I've discussed before how it's best not to work on more than one project at a time, but I understand the temptation. As such, make a dump document where you include all your ideas for other projects, but continue to focus your attention on your current WIP.

I have planning documents for all six remaining books in the series (What Is Cannot Be Unwritten, the fourth book, is already in revisions), which helps me know what I plan to do when I return to them. However, I only ever work on the very next project in my queue, which keeps me from getting confused and allows me to give all my attention to my current WIP.

About the Eirenic Verses

If you haven't yet picked up your copy of Funeral of Hopes, you'll definitely want to pick up a copy! In a previous newsletter, I shared the amazing review I received, but I won't belabor the point - you can always go check out what people are saying on Goodreads.

Now let's look ahead to July - and, specifically, the Smashwords Summer/Winter Sale! I love Smashwords because they give you unlocked PDFs or EPUBs of any books you purchase, making it simple and easy to download them on any device you prefer.

During the month of June, my first book, 9 Years Yearning, will be FREE through Smashwords. Pride Before a Fall is 50% off, while Funeral of Hopes is full price. And, of course, Saint Luridalr and the Peony Phoenix is permanently free!

What I'm Reading This Week

As I've discussed before, marketing is my absolute curse - and I'm certainly not alone. Many writers really struggle with this aspect of publishing, which is why it was such a relief to find Firefly Magic. This book was written for INFJ and INFP writers (like me, hello!) who hate marketing because it feels narcissistic and self-aggrandizing.

I found this book incredibly comforting, and it encouraged me to take a bolder approach to my marketing plans. Marketing doesn't have to feel fake and corporate: it can be exactly what makes you feel good and attracts others with your light. Think of this book as your permission slip to get experimental and do what resonates with your heart.
